As part of the Civic Center Constitution, the Culiacán Zoo is the most attractive point of visit, both for tourists and locals, to the point that has become for many what defines the park.

Originally designed by the architect Jaime Sevilla Pollastro, as part of the complex of the then only known as Parque Constitución. It was the initiative of the municipal government of the time and the then governor, the revolutionary general, Gabriel Leyva Velásquez, on two and a half hectares of an old donated garden. This in 1958.

Throughout its existence it has received arrangements and remodeling, both to improve the visitor experience and to optimize the living conditions of its animal residents. It was in 2010 that there was a total renovation of the facilities giving it the modern look that it currently possesses and cover the standards of the Association of Zoos, Farms and Aquariums of Mexico.

The Zoo has educational areas, seal show, herpetary, an aviary, a petting zoo with farm animals, the enclosures of individual species, botanical garden, fish pond and waterfowl, in addition to recreational areas and meals. It is estimated that it receives 800 thousand visits per year, especially when there are special exhibitions, or when a new member of its inhabitants is born.

It currently has 160 animal species, having received specimens of circuses, after the prohibition of using animals in 2014, and private collections where they were abandoned or had been abandoned to their fate. Even some who by the advance of the urban spot found themselves in dangerous interaction for them with human beings. Those who can be relocated to nature are returned after rehabilitation in case of illness or injury.

Up to 90% of the species that inhabit the Zoo have managed to be successfully reproduced, some of which no longer multiply in nature, due to the direct extinction by the hands of man, or the destruction of their habitats. Hence the importance of the work done in the institution.

The Zoo, is above all a space for the education and conservation of animal species, where the expert hands of the specialists who work there help in the preservation of biodiversity and the promotion of the values of awareness towards our animal companions in the world.
